WBP Group is a diverse organisation catering to many differing client groups.  A growing arm of the business is providing independent property valuations for our legal clients who specialise in Family Law and property disputes.   Sheila Avila joined WBP Group in 2017 and has played a prominent role in growing this department and elevating WBP Group to one of the largest family law valuation firms in the country.

Here we talk to Sheila about her role and discuss the impact of COVID-19 on valuations for Family Law purposes.

  • How long have you been with WBP Group?
I have been with WBP Group for over 3 years and prior to WBP Group I worked in property and family law valuations for several years.
  • What’s your position and describe your role.
Client Services Manager, Specialised Valuations Department. I look after all the valuations that require additional focus, for example family law, probate, taxation, acquisition and property dispute matters.
  • Can you provide a brief overview of the Family Law department?
WBP Group has a dedicated in-house Family Law & Specialised Valuations team that undertakes all valuation assignments in support of legal associated matters and conciliation purposes. We have valuers who specialise in providing valuations for Family Law purposes around the country.
  • What sets WBP Group apart in this area?
We are one of the largest family law valuation firms in Australia with a family business operated culture. Family law matters can be complex, requiring a sensitive and conscientious approach from a specialised team.  We pride ourselves on providing the extra care and attention for clients who are going through a difficult time in their lives.  Our valuers are experts in providing valuations for the Federal Circuit Court and the Family Court.
  • What’s been your most rewarding achievement at WBP?
Developing and expanding our Family Law & Specialised Valuations practice into one of the leaders in Australia. I enjoy working with the other states and supporting them in the Family Law space also.  It is rewarding when we can provide solutions to help people in difficult situations.
  • Who in the organisation has had the biggest impact on your career?
Patrick Brady with his industry knowledge and strategy. Greville Pabst with his contacts and professional approach. Brendan Smith for his strategic thinking and giving me the opportunity to develop my role.
  • What has been the impact of COVID-19 on your department?
We have been quite busy throughout the pandemic, with a considerable increase in the number of valuations requested for family law matters.  We also have many of our lawyer clients commenting they have seen a quantifiable increase in the number of new matters and enquiries. Because of the lockdown in Melbourne, we introduced Virtual Valuation technology to allow us to continue to serve our clients even when the valuer couldn’t physically inspect the property.  This has been hugely successful.  As of September 30, we are now allowed to conduct physical inspections again.

Sheila has been a great addition to our team at WBP Group.  She has strong business development skills and is the consummate client relationship management professional.  Sheila is a real asset to the WBP team.
