At WBP Group, there are numerous team members who have played a major role in moulding the firm over the years. However few have had the same impact, over such a short period of time, as Andreas Suwono, National Compliance and Risk Manager.

Over the past three years, Andreas has made his mark on the organisation. Andreas has helped many of our cadets and valuers in their growth and pursuit of excellence in the valuation industry.

Adrian Graham, National Operations Manager says, “Andreas is a hard working and highly respected manager. He is constantly assisting and mentoring our valuers and up-skilling as many of our team as possible.”

Alexandra Churches, State Director, Residential Valuations (Vic) added “Andreas is a wealth of knowledge, a source of inspiration and a real pleasure to work with.”

“Andreas is hardworking and adaptable with a great sense of humour. He very quickly became an integral part of the team.”

Stuart Brown, Operational Governance Manager

Q & A with Andreas.

Q. How long have you been with WBP?

I’ve been here now for three and a half years

Q. What’s your position?

National Compliance and Risk Manager – in broad terms my role is to support the residential valuations team by monitoring the quality assurance function to ensure reports are submitted within the required time frames and to the required quality standards.

Q. How would you describe the training program here at WBP?

In between ‘Very Good’ and ‘Excellent’. Although I am a bit biased since the Compliance team normally runs the training program.

On a serious note, I believe that we have an incredible opportunity within this space. Internally we have a lot of highly skilled/experienced team members who can share their expertise with others for the wider benefit of the team.

Q. What do you enjoy most about your role?

Definitely the people and the variety of work/issues that I come across on a daily basis. It’s very rare to have a ‘quiet’ day when working in the Compliance team. If we are not dealing with high volumes of jobs on the list, we are dealing with valuer questions or new policies/new Standing Instructions requirements/new templates/customer queries/broker queries…. Wait, have I misread the question… I thought the question was what is the most challenging part of your job.

Q. In the organisation, who would you say has had the biggest impact on your career?

I am very thankful for the opportunity and trust that the leadership team i.e. Adrian Graham, Brendan Smith, Stuart Brown and Alexandra Churches have given me over the last 3 year period.

Although, I must say that, my main motivation generally comes from all the valuers, particularly from the cadets and/or the recently qualified valuers. They are creating their own future in this industry. Their passion and hunger for training, gaining new information and opportunities, is tremendous to see and certainly keeps me motivated to do what I do everyday.

Q. Do you have a favourite book, blog or podcast that has influenced your career?

7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. This book shares techniques to help you adopt the very traits that make others successful.

Q. If I wasn’t at WBP, I’d be …..

If I wasn’t in this role I’d be travelling around Australia in my dream camper van (The DoubleBack Volkswagen T5 Transporter Campervan with rear slide-out)

Q. Something my colleagues probably don’t know about me.

Long story but I also have a postgraduate Masters Degree in Biotechnology (yes I am a bit of a geek).
